I don't understand what is getting hammered. The sound is like a hammer inside the trans pounding away at the case (metal on metal). This happened suddenly. The hammering is in forward & reverse. None in neutral. The damper plate looks OK. I disconnected the drive shaft with no difference. I can not fully disassemble the input shaft because I do not have an output shaft nut spanner. Would like to get one.
