This is common.
The "drag" you are experiencing is normal. The newer design velvet drive gears have 3 holes drilled into the forward clutch hub that allows better fluid drainage, which reduces this "drag".

Find your leak, the most common (and most easilly fixed) is the o-ring at the valve body.

Try to determine where the leak is coming from, clean everything off very well and put a drain pad (or pizza box) under the gear and see if you can pinpoint the leak from where the spots occur.
